Steel rail is the main component of railway track. Its function is to guide the vehicle wheel of locomotive forward, bear the great pressure of the wheel, and transfer to the sleeper. The steel rail must provide the wheel a continuous, smooth and minimal-resistance rolling surface. In the electrified railway or automatic block section, the rail can also be used as the rail circuit.
